Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa are proud to announce their recent sponsorship of a female turtle from the Marine Turtle Conservation Project. The turtles are released into the wild with trackers, allowing experts to monitor feeding and nesting patterns which in turn assist in decisions on marine development and conservation projects.
The programme tracks all the turtles released and monitors their progress in ‘The Great Turtle Race’ which shows the path of the turtles on their journey so far. ‘Speedy’, the hotel’s turtle, who was released in Iran, is already living up to her name and is a front runner amongst the group.
As one of the first turtles tagged this year at her nesting ground on Nahiloo Island, half way up the coast of Iran, she is now taking an almost direct path through the Arabian Gulf towards the UAE, travelling over 350 kilometres since the 9th May 2011.
David Thomson, Regional General Manager of Jebel Ali International Hotels expresses his support for the project. “The Marine Turtle Conservation Project is a fantastic initiative that we, as a company, are proud to be involved in. Their dedicated effort to preserving safe environments for turtles is a worthwhile cause that requires even more support in order to help achieve results.”
